Ninoba - Day of the blessed death of St. Nino

January 27 is St. Nino's Day or Ninooba in Georgia. Nino, the Equal-to-the-Apostles Enlightener, once brought Christianity to Georgia. Therefore, the Orthodox Church commemorates her name twice a year: June 1, the day of Nino's arrival, and January 27, the day of her death.

Nino was a Roman woman who, according to legend, received a vision calling her to spread Christianity in Georgia. She arrived in the country in the 4th century and began to preach the teachings of Christ.

According to legend, Nino performed many miracles, healing the sick and converting people to Christianity. She also suffered persecution for her faith, but continued her mission despite the dangers.

Celebrating Ninooba
Religious rites. On this day, Georgians visit churches, pray to St. Nino and ask her for protection and blessing. Liturgies and other church services are held to remember the saint's deeds and her contribution to the spread of Christianity.

Traditions. People bring bread and wine to the temple to bless them and share these products with loved ones. It is also customary to prepare special dishes in honor of the saint to mark her day.

Cultural events. In some regions of Georgia, folk festivals, concerts, and exhibitions are held dedicated to the legacy of St. Nino and her contribution to Georgian culture.
